The Universe doesn’t understand “Stop sending bad boyfriends.” Or “I don’t want to be fat.” Or “Make this pain go away.”
What it does respond to is, “My boyfriend is open, loving, kind, sexy, secure, compassionate, romantic, happily and gainfully employed, talented, smart, resourceful and engaged in living a life he loves.” Tall order? That was nearly the exact order I placed with the Universe a few months before my Michael came into my life and rocked it. And it describes him to perfection.
The Universe also understands, “I am happy and comfortable in my body.” And bonus, because you relax and take the pressure off yourself, you don’t feel so driven to make choices that support staying stuck where you don’t want to be.
The Universe wants us to be comfortable and healthy and calm, and when pain is in the picture all of those things are near impossibilities. Even so, telling the Universe your desired state will do nothing but bring it about sooner. “I am relaxed and comfortable, I feel good.”
Nobody is perfect. Sometimes I screw up and say things like, “I can’t take another night laying awake, this is torture!” (My mother suffered from terrible insomnia after menopause, often sleeping only two or three hours a night. Thanks, Mom.) Before I go to bed, I try to remember to thank the Angel of Sleep for a full night of sound, healing, restorative sleep. But if I’m too tired I don’t remember. It very often works, though I don’t know if it’s the Angel of Sleep doing it, or me setting the intention and being grateful in advance. Maybe it’s a combination of both. It doesn’t work every time, but the more I do it, the more often it does.
It’s important to phrase things in the present, and from an attitude of gratitude. If we say, “My next boyfriend will be,” the Universe might interpret that to mean it’s not all that important to you and will keep that request in the potential state, unless everything you want is nearby and easy to create.
